Abstract
Background: The number of patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis in 2020 was 3,551,610. The biggest cause of death in HD patients was cardiovascular complications at 42% with intradialytic hypertension as the largest proportion of complications.
Objective: We aimed to identify the frequency of intradialytic hypertension and its significant risk factors in CKD patients on routine hemodialysis in the Dialysis Unit of Aisyiyah Islamic Hospital Malang.
Methods: We used medical records of hemodialysis patients in June 2025. Samples were taken using total sampling technique. We performed Chi-Square Test with age, interdialytic weight gain (IDWG), urea reduction ratio (URR), duration of hemodialysis, number of antihypertensive drugs, on the incidence of intradialytic hypertension.
Results: Intradialytic hypertension was found in 48 of 76 patients (63.2%). The majority of them were over 40 years old (90.8%), had increased IDWG (81.6%) and URR adequate (89.5%), were on hemodialysis for less than 6 months (55.3%), and used more than one antihypertensive drugs (78.9%).
Conclusion: The majority of patients experienced intradialytic hypertension (63.2%) with the duration of hemodialysis as an significant risk factor (p-value 0.032). No significance was found between age, intradialytic weight gain, urea reduction ratio, and amount of antihypertensive drugs on the incidence of intradialytic hypertension.
