Abstract
Emotional intelligence played an important role; high emotional intelligence helped overcome stress, reduce anxiety and depression, and also increased the motivation of teenagers to achieve their goals. External factors such as parents were found to affect emotional intelligence. This research was conducted to investigate the role of parental social support on the emotional intelligence of male teenagers. This research used quantitative methods. The sample of this study was taken using purposive sampling techniques, involved 126 male teenagers aged 12–18 years. The Parental Social Support Scale and the Wong and Law EI Scale (WLEIS) were used. Furthermore, a simple linear regression analysis technique was chosen to test the hypothesis in this study. The findings of this study showed that the social support of parents had a positive role that contributed 4.4% (R² = 0.044) to the variation of emotional intelligence; the higher the social support of parents that male teenagers had, the higher the emotional intelligence score of male teenagers.
