Abstract

Paria is a type of plant from the Cucurbitaceae family with wide leaves and a climbing or crepping plant. Bitter melon is consumed by the community despite its bitter taste. The standard of excellence of bitter taste, quality and quantity of bitter melon is known as a means of market demand and farmers. To increase the production of superior varieties of bitter melon, it is necessary to carry out plant breeding tests for characterization and productivity results. Research on characterization and potential productivity results using comparison varieties (VP1, VP2, VP3, VP4, VP5 and VP6) and 2 Aura genotypes (1381 and 1489). The study used the Randomized Block Design (RKLT) method with one factor repeated 3 times with 24 one experiment. Each plot bed was observed with four sample plants selected in a randomized manner. The research was conducted in Donganti, Plosoklaten, Kediri Regency, East Java from November 2024 to February 2025. Qualitative character observations include leaf color, leaf shape, fruit skin color, fruit shape (fruit base and fruit tip), fruit nodule texture and fruit flesh taste test. Quantitative characteristics observed in terms time are the percentage of mature flowers, the day the flowers appear, the age of harvest, and the storage capacity. Quantitative observations in the form of measurements include stem diameter (cm), leaf length (cm), leaf width (cm), fruit length (cm) and fruit diameter (cm). Observation of quantitative characteristics on weight include the number of fruits per plant, weight per fruit, fruit weight per plant and yield. The 2 paria genotypes tested for qualitative characters from the Aura 1381 and Aura 1489 genotypes have special characteristics, namely the strong intensity of the bitter taste of the fruit, the qualitative character of the paria from the Aura 1381 genotype is the rounded shape of the fruit tip and rare fruit surface nodules, and the qualitative character of the Aura 1489 genotype has spesiacl characteristics in the color of the fruit skin, namely strong yellow green 144C. The Aura 1381 genotype cluster test has a similarity of 62,08% and the Aura 1489 genotype with a similarity of 57,75%. The Aura 1381 and VP2 genotype cluster have a similarity of the 62,08% compared to the Aura 1489 and VP4 genotype clusters with a similarity of 57,75%. The superiority of quantitative characters of Aura 1381 genotype and Aura 1489 genotype is weight fruit. The weight fruit of Aura 1381 genotype has an average yield of 240,00 grams/fruit and Aura 1489 genotype has an average weight of 230,67 grams/fruit.
