Abstract
This study aims to develop a mathematics learning module based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) that is valid, practical, and effective in enhancing the critical thinking skills of elementary school students. The study was prompted by students’ difficulties in interpreting word problems and constructing problem-solving strategies, particularly on topics related to Least Common Multiple (LCM) and Greatest Common Divisor (GCD). This research adopts a research and development method using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The subjects were fifth-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 8 KH Mas Mansur, Malang. Validation results from content and media experts indicated that the developed module falls under the “very valid” category. The module was also deemed practical based on positive feedback from both teachers and students. The effectiveness test using pretest and posttest revealed a significant improvement in students' critical thinking skills, particularly in four key indicators: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. Therefore, the RME-based module is considered feasible for use as a teaching tool that supports contextual mathematics learning and the development of critical thinking skills in elementary education.
