Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the OIDDE learning model on the metacognitive skills, critical thinking, and ethical attitudes of 10th grade science students in biotechnology at Muhammadiyah High School in Tarakan City. The OIDDE model consists of five learning stages, namely Orientation, Identify, Discussion, Decision, and Engage in Behavior. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent control group pre-test and post-test design. The research sample consists of two classes: an experimental class that was given the OIDDE model treatment and a control class that used conventional learning. The instruments used include a metacognitive skills questionnaire, a critical thinking skills test, and an ethical attitude questionnaire. The analysis results indicate that the OIDDE learning model has a significant effect on improving metacognitive skills, critical thinking, and ethical attitudes. The research findings show that the implementation of the OIDDE learning model significantly improves students' metacognitive skills by 13.73% compared to a 4.26% increase in the control class. Additionally, the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class also showed a higher average increase compared to the control class, at 56.47% and 43.46%, respectively. The ethical attitudes of students in the experimental class were 23.02%, while those in the control class were 12.49%. This study concludes that the OIDDE learning model is effective in improving students' metacognitive skills, critical thinking, and ethical attitudes in biotechnology material.
