Abstract

This study aims to obtain a sustainable green mining model in reducing carbon emissions from the perspective of profit, planet and people in realizing SDG's by using a qualitative approach with a case study model. Questionnaires were distributed to key informants, interviews and analysis of sustainability report documents and financial reports. This study reveals that a sustainable green mining model cannot be carried out only with process efficiency activities in reducing carbon emissions, but also reducing carbon emissions naturally (natural-based) through downstreaming business lines to offset excess carbon emissions in other business lines and implementing a green economy through company contributions to the environment and society. Green mining is an interesting challenge in realizing sustainable mining in order to support carbon emission reduction. This study contributes to the integration of environmental aspects into cost efficiency in reducing carbon emissions naturally (natural-based) as an effective and sustainable alternative. Companies and governments need to work together through the sustainability committee in each company to realize sustainable green mining. This study is limited to a sample of coal mining companies, which can be explored again for effective carbon offset mechanisms, considering that the carbon exchange is still very new and still allows for the development of policies and current issues.
