Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ mathematical communication skills through the implementation of the Quantum Teaching learning model. This model emphasizes dynamic interactions between teachers and students and presents meaningful, contextual, and engaging material. The research focuses on how students express mathematical ideas orally, in writing, and visually, as well as their use of appropriate mathematical notations and symbols throughout the learning process. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Jatirejo, Mojokerto Regency, involving 30 students from class 8A. Data were collected through observation, interviews, written tests, and assignments. Research instruments were validated by education experts and practitioners. Data analysis was carried out inductively through stages of organization, classification, synthesis, pattern identification, and descriptive conclusion. The findings indicate that the Quantum Teaching model facilitates the development of students’ mathematical communication abilities. Students demonstrated competence in expressing ideas, constructing logical arguments, using visual representations, and connecting mathematical concepts with contextual situations. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, including low self-confidence in oral communication and limited mathematical vocabulary. Approaches incorporating group activities, visual aids, and celebration of learning outcomes were shown to enhance student engagement and comprehension. These findings have important implications for student-centered mathematics learning practices. The Quantum Teaching model not only supports cognitive development but also fosters confidence, a sense of belonging, and student awareness of the importance of communication in mathematics learning. Therefore, this model is recommended as an alternative for improving the quality of mathematics education at the junior high school level.
