Abstract
This research aims to examine the communication skills and learning motivation of MTs students in learning mathematics using the Lumio application. The main focus of the research is not just identifying, but analyzing in depth the level of communication skills and learning motivation of students based on high, medium and low categories. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations and questionnaires. The research subjects consisted of 11 class VII students who were selected based on the results of initial observations and scores on the learning motivation questionnaire as well as the mathematics communication assessment rubric. The research results show that students in the high category are able to communicate mathematical ideas orally and in writing coherently, use visual representations such as graphs and symbols, and show a strong drive to learn independently. Students in the medium category tend to be able to understand and explain mathematical concepts, but are not yet optimal in linking concepts or explaining logical reasons in depth. Their motivation seems to fluctuate and depends on the conditions of the learning environment. Meanwhile, students in the low category have difficulty expressing mathematical ideas and show weak learning motivation, such as giving up easily, lacking focus, and depending on the direction of the teacher or friends. Thus, using Lumio as a learning medium has a positive impact in increasing learning engagement, especially in the medium and high categories. However, for low category students, special assistance strategies are needed so that they can participate in the learning process optimally
