Abstract

This article discusses the analysis of Duterte's firm and harsh attitude in responding to the European Union's criticism of the War on Drugs policy. During his candidacy before becoming president of the Philippines, Duterte said he would be serious in handling the distribution and abuse of narcotics, Duterte said he would implement the same method that Duterte did when he served as mayor in Davo. When he became the 16th president of the Philippines, there were many policy controversies that occurred during his leadership which originated from the drug eradication policy, namely the War on Drugs, one of which was quite the center of attention, namely Duterte's response to the warning given by the European Union regarding the War on Drugs policy which was indicated to violate gross human rights, where many civilian lives were killed without trial or Extrajudicial killing, and a series of human rights violations regarding violence by officers against civilians to baseless killings. When the European Union gave a warning about the human rights violations that occurred, Duterte was reluctant to revoke the policy on the grounds that he did not want his country's affairs to be interfered with or intervened by the European Union and explained that the EU's criticism was a form of modern colonialism, not stopping there, Duterte threw out curse words and even gave a Middle finger gesture at a press conference in Davo City. The cause of Duterte's rude attitude in response to the EU's criticism will be the focus of this study, namely how this rude and undiplomatic attitude can be formed from Duterte's figure.
