Abstract

This research is motivated by scientific literacy abilities in science learning, especially biology subjects at MTsN 10 Banyuwangi which have not yet developed aspects of scientific literacy competence in explaining scientific phenomena, evaluating and designing scientific investigations and interpreting data and evidence scientifically. This research aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on improving the scientific literacy skills of class VII MTsN 10 Banyuwangi students on environmental pollution material. This research is a quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research type and a non-equivalent control group design research design. The sample was determined using a purposive sampling technique, and choosing class VII G as the control class and VII H as the experimental class. The research instrument uses 20 multiple choice questions. The collected data was then analyzed using the One-way ANCOVA test. The results of the analysis show that the PBL model has a significant effect on students' scientific literacy skills in environmental pollution material (p = 0.000 < 0.05). The results of this research show that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on increasing scientific literacy skills in the competency aspect in the experimental class compared to the control class which uses the Non-PBL learning model.
