Abstract

Final year students in the process of completing their final assignments as a graduation requirement are susceptible to academic stress. Stress is a problem for students in Malang City. Students with high self-efficacy and hardiness tend to be better able to manage academic stress. This study aims to determine whether or not there is an influence of self-efficacy and hardiness on academic stress of final year students in Malang City. This study uses a quantitative method with 336 research subjects selected through convenience sampling techniques. The measuring instruments used are the General self-efficacy scale (GSES), hardiness scale, and Student-Life Stress Inventory (SLSI). The data obtained were analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques. The results of the study showed a significant simultaneous influence between the independent variables and academic stress (F = 45.224; p <0.000). In the partial test, self-efficacy did not have a significant effect on academic stress (β = 0.015; p = 0.744), while hardiness had a significant positive effect on academic stress (β = 0.334; p <0.000). Further research is suggested to explore other factors that influence academic stress. Further research is suggested to explore more psychological factors other than self-efficacy and hardiness that can influence academic stress either simultaneously or partially by reviewing internal and external factors in final year students.
