Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not there is an influence of the application of an inductive approach in mathematics learning on students' critical thinking skills. This study uses a quantitative method with an experimental research type. The population of this study were students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Krian. This activity took data from 36 students from VIII H as an experimental class with an inductive approach treatment, and 36 students from VIII I as a control class with a deductive approach treatment. The results of the research data were obtained by conducting tests in the form of Pre-test and Post-test. The data analysis techniques used in the study were normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test. This shows that there is a significant difference related to critical thinking skills in students who received treatment using an inductive approach with students who received treatment using a deductive approach. The results of the normality test show that the data is normally distributed with a significant value of >0.05. The homogeneity test shows that both samples are declared equal or homogeneous with a number >0.05. And the hypothesis test shows a significant influence based on the results of the Independent sample t-test with a significant value of the average Post-test showing 0.00 <0.05. Thus, the results of this study indicate that the application of an inductive approach can influence the improvement of students' critical thinking skills.
