Abstract

Language holds an important function in numerous aspects of everyday life, especially in the areas of thinking, reasoning, and being. The study of English is an educational field aimed at providing students with a thorough grasp and skill in the English language, allowing them to communicate efficiently and correctly in spoken English.
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Let’s Speak English application in enhancing the pronunciation and overall language skills of Grade VIII students at Junior High School 1 Taman Siswa Surabaya. This study used a class room action research methodology conducted at Junior High School 1 Taman Siswa Surabaya from November 2 to 23, 2023. It focuses on 280 Grade VIII students, with 30 randomly selected from eight classes of around 30 students each. Data was collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and tests. The research aims to transform individuals and institutions through action research, with data analysis ensuring accurate and clear interpretation of the findings.
Based on this research, The Let's Speak English application effectively improved the English pronunciation skills of Grade VIII students, with average scores rising from 68 in Cycle I to 87 in Cycle II. The addition of the crossword puzzle method led to a 28% improvement, enhancing students' speaking accuracy. It is recommended that Junior High School 1 Taman Siswa Surabaya incorporate the app into the English curriculum and train teachers for its use. Future research should explore its long-term impact, effectiveness in other language areas, and applicability across different age groups and proficiency levels.
