Abstract
Individuals in early adulthood tend to be active on social media, this can be an option when early adults feel lonely, especially for those who are not married and have entered the workforce who are often faced with various pressures and demands, both from the social
and professional environment. One of the common psychological impacts experienced is loneliness, especially for individuals who are not married and live an independent life. In this situation, social media is often an escape to find connections and entertainment, which in the long term can trigger addiction. This study aims to determine the effect of loneliness on social media addiction in early adults who are already working. The sampling of this study involved
350 respondents aged 18 to 25 years. This study used the UCLA Loneliness Scale with 23 items and the Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) with 13 items. The results of this study showed that there was an effect of loneliness on social media addiction with a p value = 0.000 (p <0.05), an R value of 0.758 with a positive coefficient value.
