Abstract

Background: Children aged 8-9 years tend to be easily distracted, so they have difficulty maintaining focus during the learning process. This condition can cause a decrease in children's learning concentration. This study aims to determine the effect of art therapy (painting) on learning concentration of elementary school children.
Methods: This study uses a quantitative design with a two group pretest-posttest design method. The research sample amounted to 30 third grade students of SDN Ketawanggede, which were divided into treatment groups (given art therapy (painting)) and control groups (without intervention). The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The instrument used in the research was the Child Concentration Inventory questionnaire. Data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics and independent sample t-test.
Results: The average value of learning concentration in the treatment group increased from 13.47 in the pretest to 23.20 in the posttest. Meanwhile, the control group decreased from 15.53 in the pretest to 11.53 in the posttest. The results of the independent sample t-test analysis showed a significant difference between the two groups with a Sig value. (2-tailed) of 0.000
Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is an effect of art therapy (painting) on increasing the concentration of learning for elementary school children.
