Russia and America are two superpowers with the strongest military capabilities in the world, so it will not be easy to eliminate nuclear weapons ownership because weapons development will continue to experience innovation, but nuclear ownership and its use can be limited. The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New Start) is a new agreement that has been perfected and is expected to be a successor to previous denuclearization agreements. The New Start agreement between the United States and Russia took place in Prague, April 8 2010, where the two countries officially agreed to reduce and limit the possession of strategic nuclear weapons (arms control), after previously experiencing several failures in denuclearization. This research uses national interest theory to explain Russia's interest in denuclearization through the New Start agreement. This type of research is qualitative which relies on collecting secondary data in the form of literature studies or research literature. The results of this research show that Russia emphasizes potential security for its country, so that denuclearization efforts are not only focused on nuclear restrictions, but also building world peace and security mechanisms. . One of Russia's factors in supporting denuclearization efforts is guaranteeing a non-nuclear future in the Euro, Asia and Atlantic regions, guaranteeing political and economic security between regions, as well as creating long-term stability in diplomatic relations, negotiations, transparency and exchange of information involving forces. global relations between Russia and the United States.
