Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between peers group relationship and emotion regulation among Gen Z users of the social media TikTok. The background of this research is based on the growing phenomenon of social media usage, particularly TikTok among Gen Z, which affects the dynamics of social relationships and one’s ability to regulate emotions. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The subjects of this research
were male and female members of Gen Z who are active TikTok users, with a total of 2,840 participants. The sampling technique used was snowball sampling. The instruments used in this study were the Peer Relationship Scale and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and the Spearman’s Rho correlation test, as the data were not normally distributed. The results showed a weak but significant positive correlation between peer group relationship and emotion regulation (r = 0.283, p < 0.001). This finding indicates that the better an individual’s relationship with their peers, the better their ability to regulate emotions. It can be concluded that the quality of peer relationships plays a role in supporting emotion regulation among Gen Z TikTok users.
