Abstract

Verbal aggression in children is a behavioral issue that negatively impacts their social and emotional development. One effective approach to address this problem is assertive communication training. This study aims to examine the validity of an assertive communication training module developed to reduce verbal aggression in children. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental pre-post with non-equivalent control group design. The subjects consisted of 19 children aged 10–11 years, divided into experimental and control groups. Module validity was tested through two stages: content validity using expert judgement analyzed by Aiken’s V, and empirical validity using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results showed that all training sessions had Aiken’s V values ≥ 0.75, indicating validity. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon test revealed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (Z = -2.666, p = 0.009) with a rank-biserial correlation of -1.000. These findings indicate that the developed module is effective in reducing verbal aggression in children. Therefore, this assertive communication training module is suitable for use as an intervention tool for managing verbal aggression in children
