Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to analyze the influence of perceived social support on burnout levels among Indonesian army undergoing long-distance marriages. Social support is considered a crucial psychological resource to mitigate the negative effects of work stress and emotional distance in marital relationships. Burnout is a condition of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion often experienced by individuals in high-pressure work situations, including Indonesian army facing challenges of long-distance marriages. The study utilized a quantitative method with a survey approach involving 202 Indonesian army in long-distance marriages, employing a stratified disproportionate random sampling technique. Instrument reliability was measured using Cronbach Alpha, yielding a score of 0.748 for the perceived social support variable and 0.633 for burnout. Regression analysis results showed that perceived social support has a negative relationship with burnout (β = -0.129, p = 0.066), although the effect is not statistically significant. These findings suggest that perceived social support can help reduce burnout levels in Indonesian army, though its impact has not been strong enough to be proven significant. Military institutions need to design social support programs focusing on strengthening emotional connections between personnel and their families. Additionally, training on stress management and coping strategies could serve as proactive measures to prevent burnout.
