Abstract
Academic anxiety is often experienced by university students when writing a thesis which is caused by various internal and external factors. One of the internal factors that influences is personality, which is often discussed using the big five personality. One of its dimensions is conscientiousness where this personality is characterized by perseverance, orderliness, and focus on achievement that can reduce academic anxiety by helping individuals manage tasks and responsibilities more effectively. Therefore, this study aims to determine how the conscientiousness influences academic anxiety in university students when writing a thesis. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The subjects in this study were active undergraduate university students, both male and female, who had chosen and taken thesis courses. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling (n = 403). The research instruments used were the Academic Anxiety Scale and the Big Five Inventory on the Conscientiousness dimension. The data analysis technique used in this study was simple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant negative influence between conscientiousness and academic anxiety in students when writing a thesis of 0.019 (p<0.05) with a Beta value of (-0.117) or negative which means that students who have high conscientiousness have low academic anxiety when writing a thesis.
