Abstract

The advancement of technology in the era of Industry 4.0 towards 5.0 requires the younger generation to have strong programming skills. However, programming education still faces various challenges, such as the complexity of programming logic, lack of interactivity, and limited access to easily understandable learning materials. This study aims to design the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of a programming learning application using the Design Thinking method. This method consists of five main stages: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test, which aim to create a user-centered design.

The research results indicate that users need features that facilitate interaction among users, content delivery in the form of videos, mentoring sessions, discussion forums, and real world case studies. The design verification was conducted using the Cognitive Walkthrough method to measure learnability, error rate, and time efficiency in using the application. The result is a mobile application prototype with an interactive and effective UI/UX design, which successfully achieved 100% learnability in all scenarios, 5 errors, and an efficiency rate of 0.040 tasks/second. Validation was performed using A/B Testing on five key feature aspects, with all aspects receiving a "High" category in percentage difference, the highest reaching 100% and the lowest 80%, indicating that Design B consistently performed better than similar applications.

The test results show that the developed UI/UX design can enhance the effectiveness of programming education for users. Thus, this study is expected to contribute to the development of more interactive and innovative digital-based educational applications.
