Abstract

This research was conducted to address the problem of increasing risk of medical data leakage in electronic systems, especially in skin cancer detection applications that require strong and reliable protection of patient image data. The main objective of this research is to analyze the implementation of the combination of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with Galois/Counter Mode (GCM) in maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of medical data. The method used involves applying AES-GCM to the encryption process of skin cancer images, which is then tested through Avalanche Effect and Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) analysis to assess the strength of encryption against small changes in input data and image quality after encryption and decryption processes. The results show that the AES-GCM combination significantly improves data security with a low SSIM value of 0,006141639, signifying a substantial difference between the original and encrypted images, and exhibits a significant change in Avalanche Effect that strengthens the encryption capability with 49,80791667% in bits change and NCPR with 99,59222222% in pixels change after encryption. AES-GCM can be a reliable encryption solution to protect sensitive data in digital medical applications, despite a small increase in file size of 0.053237506% due to the addition of metadata for authentication.
