Abstract
Body shaming is a social problem that still occurs frequently and has a negative impact on individual psychological conditions. How individuals deal with a problem depends on their level of self compassion. Self compassion is the ability to love oneself when facing difficulties. Developing self compassion is important to help individuals manage stress, reduce the risk of mental disorders due to body shaming. This ability to love oneself has a relationship with father attachment, which is an affectionate bond between father and child. This study aims to determine the influence of father attachment on self compassion in individual victims of body shaming. The method used in this study is a correlational quantitative method with purposive sampling technique and a sample size of 424 people. The research instrument used is the Self-Compassion Scale which has been adapted to the Indonesian language consisting of 26 items and The Inventory Parent and Peer Attachment-Revised (IPPA-R) Father Attachment sub-scale which has also been adapted to the language consisting of 25 items. The data analysis technique uses simple linear regression which shows a significant positive influence between father attachment and self compassion seen from the p value = 0.001, and r = 0.138 which means that the better the father attachment in individuals, the higher the level of self compassion they have.
