Abstract

Money politics is an attempt to influence voters through material incentives, such as money or goods, aimed at buying votes. This practice is common in regional elections (Pilkada) and poses a serious threat to democratic integrity. This study examines money politics in the 2024 Madiun City Pilkada using a socio-legal approach. Data was collected through interviews with relevant stakeholders and an analysis of legal documents. The findings indicate that money politics is systematically carried out by candidates, campaign teams, and other actors. The main factors that make it difficult to eradicate include weak law enforcement, low public awareness, and a lack of transparency in campaign funding. Although regulations exist under Law No. 10 of 2016, their implementation remains ineffective. This study concludes that strengthening regulations, increasing campaign transparency, and encouraging active public participation are crucial in preventing money politics. With stricter law enforcement and comprehensive political education, future elections can be conducted more fairly and transparently.
