Abstract

Toxic relationships are a prevalent phenomenon among university students, characterized by emotional and verbal abuse, and challenges in ending these relationships. Low self-esteem is a contributing factor that exacerbates this condition, making individuals more susceptible to remaining trapped in unhealthy relationships. Father involvement has been identified as a critical factor in the development of self esteem. A lack of father involvement may reinforce feelings of worthlessness, further complicating the individual's ability to navigate toxic relationships. This study aims to investigate the relationship between father involvement and self-esteem in university students experiencing toxic relationships. The study involved 278 respondents and utilized a correlational quantitative design with accidental sampling. The instruments employed were the Father Involvement Scale and the Self esteem Scale. The findings indicated a significant positive relationship between father involvement and self esteem (r = 0.377, p < 0.05). The study concludes that higher father involvement contributes to the enhancement of self-esteem in students experiencing toxic relationships, thereby helping them become more confident and capable of exiting these unhealthy relationships
