Abstract

Employee performance is an important aspect in maintaining the quality of service in
a hospital environment. One factor that has the potential to affect employee performance is
interpersonal communication. However, work stress can moderate the relationship between
interpersonal communication and employee performance. This study aims to analyze the effect of
interpersonal communication on employee performance at Hospital X and explore the role of work
stress in moderating this influence. With a quantitative approach and 138 respondents. The scale
used in this study uses the employee performance scale, interpersonal communication and work
stress. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to employees at Hospital X. Data
analysis was carried out using the moderator method using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA)
model 1 in SPSS. The results of this study indicate that interpersonal communication has a positive
effect on employee performance. However, this effect weakens when work stress is high (β =
0.0491; ρ = 0.0077), which means that the higher the work stress, the weaker the positive effect.
The results of the moderation analysis confirm that work stress moderates the relationship between
interpersonal communication and employee performance. The implications of this study
emphasize the importance of stress management to maintain the effectiveness of communication
in improving employee performance.
