Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of workload on burnout with work stress as a mediating variable in KPU Jombang Regency employees. Burnout is a condition of physical, emotional, and mental fatigue due to prolonged work pressure. High workload is often the main trigger for work stress, which can then increase the risk of burnout. The research method used is a quantitative approach with Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 45 KPU Jombang Regency employees. The results showed that workload had a positive but not significant effect on burnout. However, workload had a positive and significant effect on work stress, while work stress had a positive and significant effect on burnout. In addition, work stress was shown to fully mediate the relationship between workload and burnout. This finding indicates that increasing workload does not directly cause burnout, but rather through increasing work stress first. Therefore, KPU management needs to develop strategies to manage work stress in order to prevent greater negative impacts on employee welfare.
