Abstract

Excessive smartphone use among university students can disrupt sleep patterns and reduce sleep quality. This study aims to examine the relationship between smartphone addiction and sleep quality in students. The participants were students who used smartphones for more than 30 minutes before bedtime. A correlational quantitative method with accidental sampling was employed. The instruments used were the Indonesian versions of the Smartphone Addiction Scale–Short Version (SAS-SV) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure smartphone addiction and sleep quality, respectively. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS with a correlation test. The results showed a significant negative correlation between excessive smartphone use and sleep quality (r = -0.271, p < 0.05).
