Abstract
This study aims to analyze the process of women's empowerment in improving the local economy through Pari Memping Kuning written batik in Wates Village, Magetan Regency. The focus of this research is on the empowerment of women, especially housewives, in developing batik skills as an additional source of income as well as the factors that support and hinder this empowerment process.
This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. There are two data sources, including primary and secondary data sources. The research subjects consisted of housewives, village secretaries, directors of BUMDes, and batik managers. The data analysis technique used in this study has three stages, including: a) data reduction, b) data presentation, and c) conclusion drawing and verification.
The results of the study show that women's empowerment in the written batik industry in Wates Village is carried out through three main stages, namely awareness, capacity, and empowerment. Awareness is the stage where women will be given training, insight, and knowledge about batik. Capacity building is a stage where women need to be empowered in managing it which consists of batik production, marketing, and financial management. Meanwhile, empowerment is the stage where women are given opportunities according to their abilities through active and sustainable participation by giving a greater role to capacity, capabilities, and aspirational accommodation. Supporting factors for women's empowerment include support from the village government, providing training to improve batik skills, as well as existing facilities and infrastructure even though they are not fully complete. However, there are several inhibiting factors such as the lack of skilled batik workers, the promotion of batik products is still very minimal, problems with member coordination, obstacles in the consistency of activities, and problems in the color process.
