IDENTIFIKASI PENYAKIT PADA SAPI PEDAGING DI PT GREAT GIANT LIVESTOCK

The livestock sector plays a role in the Indonesian economy, especially in meeting the food needs of the community. The level of public consumption of livestock products in Indonesia is quite high, such as meat, eggs, milk, cheese, and other products. The Central Statistics Agency noted that the population of beef cattle in Indonesia reached 17.6 million in 2022 and beef production in 2023 is estimated at 503.5 thousand tons. One of the risks often faced in cattle farming is disease attacks. Diseases in livestock can cause losses due to swelling in care and treatment costs, thus impacting economic efficiency. This study aims to determine the types of diseases, morbidity and mortality rates, and recovery in Brahman cross cattle at PT Great Giant Livestock. This research method was carried out using a quantitative descriptive approach. The results of the study showed that cattle diseases found at PT Great Giant Livestock included laminitis, pneumonia, foot rot, dislocation, abscess, arthritis, prepuce inflammation, broken legs, diarrhea, bloat. The morbidity value at PT Great Giant Livestock was 4.56% consisting of 2.12% quarantine pens and 2.44% fattening pens. Meanwhile, the mortality value on the farm was recorded at 0%, because sick cattle that showed no signs of recovery were sold to avoid economic losses due to increasing treatment costs. The percentage of recovery of cattle in quarantine pens reached 98%, while in fattening pens it was lower at 69% because the larger body weight of cattle made recovery more difficult.
