Abstract
Batu City is a commodity area in the highlands and hills where 55.61% is in the forestry area while in the agricultural area around 24% and the rest is occupied by residential areas, government, industry, tourism and many more. Therefore, the economy in Batu City is currently still supported by the agricultural sector. However, the problem of poverty and unemployment is quite high with total unemployment reaching 4,667 people or around 3.63% and poverty of 3.06%. To overcome this, the Batu City Agriculture and Food Security Office is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising activities and programs related to agriculture and food security.
This research uses a type of descriptive research with a qualitative approach where the researcher wants to describe and analyze direct data sources while in the field, in the form of the Implementation of the Batu City Agriculture and Food Security Service Program in the Management of Food Independence to Improve the Community's Economy. The fairly stable economic condition of Batu City still suffers from the problem of poverty and unemployment which is quite high with a total of unemployment reached 4,667 people or around 3.63% and poverty was 3.06%. Therefore, the Batu City Agriculture and Food Security Office made a food independence program from utilizing existing resources in Batu City. This Food Independence Management activity by the government is designed in the form of empowering the management of oyster mushroom cultivation from nursery to management into a source of economic income. This food independence activity is carried out by Kwt and Gapoktan in Batu City by utilizing vacant house land to build a food independence management business place.
Therefore, the study wants to discuss the implementation of the Batu City Agriculture and Food Security Service program that the program run by the Batu City Agriculture and Food Security Service is a concrete step in supporting the sustainability of the agricultural sector and improving the economy. The implementation of the program contributes to increasing farmers' incomes through more effective management of agricultural products and access to a wider market. More varied local products also encourage economic growth at the household and regional levels.
