Abstract
Self-harming behavior among adolescents is a significant issue as it impacts mental health and individual well-being. This study aims to examine the influence of parental attachment, both father and mother, on the tendency of self-harming behavior in adolescents. This quantitative research involved 389 respondents aged 13-18 years, selected using the convenience sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires utilizing the subscales of father and mother from the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) and the Self-Harm Inventory (SHI). The collected data were analyzed using the multiple logistic regression method. The results of the study indicate that parental attachment, both father and mother, significantly influences the tendency for self-harming behavior in adolescents. Father attachment has a greater influence compared to mother attachment, as indicated by the regression coefficient (B) value for father attachment of -0.055 and mother attachment of -0.043. This suggests that attachment to the father plays a more dominant role in reducing the likelihood of adolescents engaging in self-harming behavior.
