Abstract

Introduction: Chest pain is the most common symptom reported by patients with angina pectoris. Untreated chest pain can significantly affect patients' quality of life. Non-pharmacological treatments, such as finger grip therapy, are known to help reduce pain. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of finger grip therapy in reducing pain intensity in patients with angina pectoris.
Methods: This study used a case study design involving a 52-year-old male patient, Mr. Ng, diagnosed with Stable Angina Pectoris Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) III, who was treated in the Barito ward of Dr. Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital. Finger grip therapy was administered for three consecutive days, with each session lasting 15 minutes. The Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standard (SLKI) were used to measure pain levels before and after the intervention.
Results: The results showed a decrease in the pain Numeric Rating Scale from a moderate level (4–5) to a mild level (2–3) and an improvement in the SLKI score from 3 (moderate) to 5 (improved) after the intervention. The pain reduction occurred due to stimulation of reflex points in the fingers, which improved energy flow and stimulated the release of endorphin hormones.
Conclusion: Finger grip therapy can be used to help reduce pain in patients with angina pectoris.
