Abstract
High perfectionism often hinders the development of self-compassion, which is the ability to be kind to oneself when facing difficulties. Students with perfectionist tendencies tend to set excessive standards and feel disappointed when they fail to achieve them, thereby increasing self-criticism and reducing the ability to deal with academic pressure more adaptively. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between perfectionism and self-compassion in 12th-grade students. This study is a quantitative correlational study on 151 students of grade XII of SMAN Darussholah Singojuruh, using a simple random sampling technique. The instrument used to measure perfectionism is The Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale - Short Form (CAPS - SF) and self-compassion is measured using the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS). The analysis was conducted using a correlation test with the assistance of SPSS version 25, and the results showed a significant negative relationship between perfectionism and self-compassion (r = -0.772, p < 0.05). This means that the higher a person's level of perfectionism, the lower their level of self-compassion, and vice versa.
