Abstract
Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) is a feeling of anxiety or concern that arises when individuals perceive themselves as missing out on social media updates or trends within their social environment, potentially leading to a fear of social rejection. One of the factors contributing to FoMO is self-esteem. This study aims to understand the self-esteem levels among university students and its influence on FoMO. The research employs a quantitative method, involving 320 university students selected through a two-stage cluster sampling technique. The instruments used in this study include the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) to measure self-esteem and the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOs) to assess FoMO. Data analysis was conducted using simple regression tests with the aid of SPSS. The results indicate that self-esteem has a significant effect on FoMO among university students, with a beta (β) value of -0.535 and a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This implies that the lower an individual's self-esteem, the higher their level of FoMO.
