Abstract

The practice of land clearing by burning, which is often carried out by farmers or area
managers, has a negative impact on soil health. Soil health assessment is needed to produce
good plant growth. Indicators of soil health include soil properties and cropping systems in
the area. Soil health can be maintained by environmental management, crop rotation and
soil nutrient management. This study aims to determine the balance of macronutrients in
teak plantations. Data collection was conducted using five plots with a size of 12 x 12 m
each. In each plot, the plant height and diameter, the physical and chemical properties of
the soil, and the plant tissue (N, P, K, Ca, and Mg), were observed. The test results for
macronutrients of teak plant tissue were analyzed using DRIS method. The results showed
that the balance of nutrients was indicated by the nutrients N (0.244%), P (2.199 ppm), Ca
(0 ppm), and Mg (3.241 ppm), while the unbalanced results were indicated by the element K
(-5.180 ppm). Therefore, improvement efforts that need to be undertaken to increase the
teak plant growth are the addition of potassium fertilizer.
