Abstract

Watersheds are complex natural-human systems because they
involve various interacting biogeophysical and socio-economic-cultural
components. Degradation of forest, land, and water resources and population
pressure have caused a decline in watershed sustainability, which is the
biggest obstacle to sustainable watershed management in most developing
countries in the humid tropics. The purpose of this study was to analyze the
sustainability of the Brantas Watershed. Secondary data collection includes
water quality. Data collection was carried out at Perum Jasa Tirta 1. Data
analysis was carried out based on a sustainability index that included aspects
of water quality. The study showed that the water quality of the Brantas
River has decreased and is currently at class 4 (lowest) quality. The
sustainability of the Brantas River Basin has decreased and, in 2023, will be
in the low category.
