Abstract
Money plays an equally important role in human life, making its functionality essential. Money continues to play a vital role, both as a legal means of payment within a country, as a symbol of the nation that serves to unite, and as an instrument for economic control and growth.Bank Indonesia is responsible for printing money for the needs of the state and society, thus appointing a special printing company tasked with printing official currency. This research employs a study of social phenomena in society, using a sociological approach. The sociological approach examines the realities occurring in society. Thus, the sociological-legal approach assesses the legal system based on existing social phenomena, and the law will be applicable if established through specific procedures by authorized institutions, and can be enforced upon the community. Criminal Offense of Currency Counterfeiting The crime of counterfeiting Indonesian banknotes is committed with the intention of obtaining a desired benefit. Intentionality is the will directed towards performing an act, in the sense that to realize that act, it has indeed been desired before a person truly engages in the action. The authenticity of the rupiah banknotes can be determined by the characteristics of the rupiah present on the money. Several obstacles in the circulation of counterfeit money include: (1) The public's lack of activity in responding to the crime of counterfeiting, with cases of counterfeit money circulation in society often not reported in detail; (2) The lack of specific legal frameworks for the crime of counterfeiting money; (3) The less than positive response from relevant parties, with victims of counterfeiting often feeling anxious about the attitude of the criminal justice system; (4) Victims not reporting or not being processed; (5) the lack of legal protection for victims.
