Abstract

Emotional stability, especially in teenagers, tends to be low or immature. Emotional stability is important for teenagers because it can help them manage and face challenges. One factor that can influence emotional stability is the environment. In this case, social media has become part of the environment, namely the digital environment. If social media use is excessive, it is thought to be one of the causes of disruption of emotional stability. The research aims to determine the relationship between social media addiction and emotional stability in adolescents. The research method used is a quantitative approach with data analysis using simple linear correlation. The instruments used in this research were the SMAS-SF (Social Media Addiction Scale-Student Form) social media addiction scale and the emotional stability scale. The subjects in this study were 170 teenagers, with the criteria being 10-19 years old, and actively using social media for at least 3-4 hours/day. Subjects were taken in this research using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between social media addiction and emotional stability in adolescents (r = -0.516; p < 0.000). This research implies that it is hoped that teenagers will be able to manage the duration of their use of social media so that their emotional stability is not disturbed.
