Abstract

Area Traffic Control System (ATCS) is a system for control of highway traffic intersection using traffic lights (traffic light) where the arrangement of traffic lights at each intersection coordinated with each other, so that road users (vehicle) to get the minimum delay. With the application of ATCS or coordinated traffic lights there will be efficiency of movement and will increase capacity to serve the traffic intersection, travel time is shorter, decreasing the risk of injury to the rider and the opportunity was also higher safety for pedestrians / pedestrian trails in comfort users a better way. ATCS very well applied to the intersection point of conflict that have a lot of traffic movement and traffic volume is high enough, such as crossing the road A. Yani - L.A. Sucipto - Borobudur in Malang. The purpose of this study is to investigate the traffic characteristics and level of congestion (rush hour and not busy), and analysis of performance at a crossroads A. Yani - LA Sucipto - Borobudur so it can become a reference in optimizing control of intersections with traffic lights coordinated system (ATCS) In accordance with the above description, the initial phase is to survey the existing condition intersection (geometric), a survey of traffic volume and phase perwaktuan from each direction of traffic then analyzed to determine the traffic characteristics and performance level crossing. The results of this study indicate that the characteristics of the traffic volume at a crossroads A. Yani - LA Sucipto - Borobudur is very varied. This can be seen from the traffic volume is relatively high at the intersection and at leisure hour traffic volumes are still very low. While the level crossing was still less than optimal performance, this can be seen by the large intersection average delay of 176.86 sec / pcu. While the application of ATCS successfully minimize delays up to 40% in the amount of 107.24 sec / pcu at a crossroads A. Yani - L.A. Sucipto - Borobudur. Furthermore, to analyze the ATCS is displayed in the form of plan drawings in Autocad 2005 format for Windows.
