Abstract

In Indonesia, the potential for renewable energy is widely used, such as solar energy because it is environmentally friendly. The use of solar energy in a grid-connected distribution system can help maintain voltage stability and improve power factor. Unstable voltage occurs in the distribution system due to the influence of distance which causes power losses and the influence of the load. Problems in the distribution system can be overcome by using one type of compensator equipment, namely Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). STATCOM has the advantage of increasing voltage stability on the network and improving voltage quality. Therefore, STATCOM needs to be controlled and optimized with the help of Solar Panel DC sources to maintain voltage stability and improve system performance on distribution networks. So this research will examine the Solar Panel-based STATCOM called PV-STATCOM. In this study, the PI-controlled PV-STATCOM obtained much better voltage results of 217.3 V with a power factor value of 0.96. This research was designed using Matlab/Simulink 2022a.
