Abstract

The Kwangen river located in Perning Village, Mojokerto Regency used as a dumping ground for rice flour waste. The rice flour waste was thrown away in the river every day since the factory exist. There were changes in the physical-chemical properties of water that causes changes in the diversity of phytoplankton. This research aimed to find out the relationship between the physical-chemical properties of the Kwangen river contaminated rice flour waste with the diversity of phytoplankton as a source of Biology learning. In this research, 3 stations were selected with 9 plots per station. The physical-chemical parameters that were tested like temperature, pH, TSS, TDS, DO and BOD5. Moreover, calculation on phytoplankton diversity included diversity index(H’), Evenness index(E), Simpson index(D) and abundance of phytoplankton(N). The results of three stations, based on H' with a range of 1.766-2.382, the E range of 0.711-0.842, the D range of 0.1289-0.3255 and the N range of 456-996 ind/l. Temperature results were obtained in the range of 26-26.5 °C, pH range of 6.9-7.1, TSS range of 32.8-196 mg/l, TDS range of 457-458 mg/l, DO range of 4.95-5.52 mg/l and BOD5 range of 6.48-9.40 mg/l. Based on the multiple linear regression test, there was a causal relationship between the physical-chemical properties of the Kwangen river with diversity index, evenness index, simpson index and abundance of phytoplankton. The results of the study can be used as a source of learning on the material Perubahan dan Pelestarian Lingkungan Hidup on X class of senior high school.
