Abstract

The progress of the printing industry cannot be separated from the problem of environmental pollution which is directly discharged into the environment. Some printing industries have not treated their liquid waste properly, so it is necessary to treat the liquid waste of the printing industry, one of which is by using an electrocoagulation device. The purpose of this study was to produce a prototype of a waste electrocoagulation device, to determine the validity, effectiveness and efficiency of the printing industry waste treatment based on chemical and biological parameters. This type of research is development research with ADDIE development model with STEM approach. To determine the effectiveness of the prototype electrocoagulation device, BOD, DO, pH, and TPC parameters were tested before and after being given electrocoagulation treatment for 120 minutes. The result of this research is a prototype electrocoagulation device that has passed the feasibility test by chemists. Based on the feasibility test from the pharmacy and a questionnaire filled out by the owner of the printing industry, it was declared feasible, effective, and efficient to be used to treat the liquid waste of the printing industry. Based on the experiment in the treatment class, data analysis was carried out using paired t-test with a significance level of 0.05. From the results of calculations using SPSS, obtained P value <0.05, which means that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest values, between before and after using the prototype of the printing industry wastewater electrocoagulation device.
