Abstract
The electric power distribution system has 3 important aspects, namely generation, transmission and distribution. The electricity generated is then channeled through the transmission system. The problem that is often encountered is the failure of the transmission or distribution line caused by a leak in the insulator. Insulator leakage can be caused by contaminants on the insulator surface and mechanical cracking. Insulators are placed outdoors and many factors can affect the performance of the equipment, including air pollution, dust and rainwater containing salt. This results in the accumulation of pollutant particles and water on the surface of the insulator. The purpose of this study is to analyze the electric field on the ring insulator with water contaminants, analyze the risk of insulator failure using the finite elements method (FEM) with contaminants and without contaminants in CST. Studio. From the data that has been analyzed using the FEM method in this study, the results show that there are differences between normal insulators and insulators contaminated with water in an electric field, ring insulators made of porcelain can withstand electric fields well even though they are contaminated by water, because the electric field has disappeared. when it is in the middle of the insulator body, water contaminants in the insulator create a larger electric field because it makes the electric field shift.
