Abstract
Preclinical testing is an important step to determine the level of safety and accuracy of levels of compounds that have not been tested. The safety factor is one of the parameters that need to be considered before applying phytopharmaceuticals. One of the herbal medicines that have been developed as an antifertility agent is the condensed tannins of the leaves of beluntas (Pluchea indica). This study aims to determine the safety test results of beluntas leaf tannin extract based on the behaviour of male Rattus norvegicus so that it can be used as antifertility. Experimental research using direct observation and data collection on experimental animals for 1 hour with a qualitative descriptive research design. This comparative study involved 24 male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) using a negative control treatment (aquadest), dose groups: I (0.4 ml/KgBW), II (2 ml/KgBW), and III (2 ml/KgBW and 3 ml/KgBW). kgBW). Parameters observed were body posture, motor activity, ataxia, righting reflex, gauze test, analgesia, ptosis, and respiratory death or cardiac arrest. The data analysis technique used is simple random sampling. The results showed a significant relationship between three of the eight parameters, namely body posture, motor activity, and ptosis based on the dose that had been given. Beluntas leaf tannin extract which is safe and can be used as an antifertility candidate for male white rats is in the dose range I to II (0.4 ml/KgBW-2 ml/KgBW) and is included in the practically non-toxic category. Based on the results of the analysis and theoretical studies, this research can be used as a source of learning biology in class XI SMA at KD 3.10 and 4.10. Therefore, it is important to conduct this research in order to make the condensed tannins of beluntas safe in their application as an antifertility agent for male white rats and serve as a source for learning biology.
