Abstract
Batik industry waste is one of the contributors to environmental pollution. The production process in the batik industry begins with the stages of preparation, patterning, waxing, dyeing, removing batik wax, and finishing. Processing and coloring produce liquid waste that contains chemicals. Batik industry waste has the potential to cause water pollution because it contains high organic matter, suspended solids, oil, or fat and contains dangerous heavy metals such as Cr, Zn, Cd, Cu, and Pb. Waste from batik management in the studied area does not go through WWTP management, so it is suspected that there are still many toxic substances leftover from textile coloring, which causes environmental pollution. This study aims to reduce the content of the resulting waste, by using a natural absorbent, namely banana peel. Banana peel has functional groups in the binding of heavy metals such as hydroxyl groups and carboxylic acids. The parameters studied in the waste were Cr, COD, pH, and color. To achieve this goal, this study uses a true experiment with a post-test control-only group design. Based on the results of the study, it was found that variations in absorbent temperature were able to reduce Cr levels, pH, and color intensity of batik liquid waste, but did not affect COD levels. The results of the research are used as a biological worksheet for KD 3.11 regarding environmental pollution and its conservation efforts.
