Abstract

Stunting is a major nutritional problem that can be described by the occurrence of failure to grow in children under five or the condition of children with shorter length or height based on their age than the applicable national standards which causes immune dysfunction and will encourage increased risk of disease and mortality, impaired performance. physical, mental and intellectual functioning. The high incidence of stunting in Batu City encourages people to care about taking action and efforts to prevent stunting. This study aims to understand and describe the construction of a stunting management model by Volunteers for the Acceleration of Stunting Prevention. This study uses a social definition paradigm, a qualitative approach, the type of phenomenological research, the research subjects are self-help group actors and data analysis using Miles and Huberman's work steps and supported by the Moustakas method. The results of the study revealed that: 1) there was a social construction of the Batu City Stunting Response Acceleration Volunteer regarding the stunting management model by direct intervention to the stunting family through social health advocacy and community empowerment, 2) the actor externalized the idea of the stunting management model through interaction and communication processes until reached the point of adjustment and gave birth to a structure of institutional relevance, 3) actors objectified the stunting management model through habitualization and institutionalization which gave rise to: work procedures, self-help group organizations, and organizational structures, 4) actors internalized the stunting prevention model through primary-secondary socialization in the form of self-identity as 'a volunteer' and its various roles/sub-roles and attitudes.
