Abstract

Stability is one of the most important criteria for a preparation dosage form. This study was designed to determine the effect of ethanolic extract of the leaves of Annona muricata L. that has been stored for 6 mo on the blood glucose level of alloxan-induced diabetic Wistar rats, as a comparison is the effect of ethanolic extract of the leaves of A. muricata L. freshly. The animals were randomly assigned to five groups A, B, and C1,C2 and C3 that each group consist of five rats. Group A was the control, non-diabetic group of rats, group B was the experimentally induced diabetic group without A. muricata L. treatment, while group C1, C2 and C3 was the experimentally induced diabetic group treated with ethanolic extrats of leaves of A. muricata at a dose of 500 mg ∙ kg−1 b.w., 1 000 mg ∙ kg−1 b.w. and 2 000 mg ∙ kg−1 b.w., respectively. No significant difference in both groups at dose of 500 mg ∙ kg−1 b.w. and 1 000 mg ∙ kg−1 b.w., otherwise at a dose of 2 000 mg ∙ kg−1 b.w., blood glucose concentrations of rats that are given A. muricata L. leaf extract that storage for 6 mo is higher than rats group given the fresh A. muricata L. leaf extract
