Abstract
Aluminum is one type of metal that is widely applied to machine components, construction and others. In addition, aluminum is also widely found in household appliances. The large use of this material is due to some good properties that the metal has. However on use in the wider field aluminum still has some drawbacks, such as very low strength. To increase its strength is usually done by combining other elements such as Si, Cu, Mg, Mn Zn and Ni into it through the casting or forging process. Among the many alloy elements provided, copper is a widely used alloy to improve the mechanical properties of aluminum. Copper is able to increase the hardness and tensile strength of aluminum. The result of the study conducted is data testing tensile and hardness. In tensile testing, the highest voltage value was achieved at the addition of copper by 6,5% which is 91,76 MPa. While the lowest value was achieved in the addition of copper by 0% which is 66,40 MPa. The highest strain value was obtained with a copper concentration of 4,5% which is 0,039%. While the lowest was the addition of copper by 6,5% which is 0,017 %. In Rockwell hardness testing, the highest hardness value was obtained with the addition of copper by 6,5% which is 69,1 HRB. While the lowest hardness value was obtained by the addition of copper by 0% which is 57,03 HRB.
