Abstract

Cyberbullying is becoming more popular among adolescents as young people increasingly use technology to participate in it. In cyberbullying, communications can be anonymous, and threats can come from a broader audience relative to face-to-face bullying. All forms of bullying in cyberspace do by perpetrators are very detrimental to the victim. Maybe not biologically but psychologically deteriorating, without realizing it can make victims cornered and sometimes think that they are no longer treated in this world and leads to suicide. This study analyzes “The Cyberbully” film to find the types of cyberbullying faced by Casey and the effects of those bullying on Casey's life. This research used a qualitative research method, and the data were descriptive. The data taken from the transcription and the video of “The Cyberbully” film, the researcher focused on cyberbullying faced by Casey Jacob as the main character and the effects of it on her life. Based on Chadwick’s theory, the researcher analyzes the types of cyberbullying. To get the data, the researcher used mise-en scene theory to discover the ideas expressed in the film. When completing this study, the researcher, however, just looked at the scenes and dialogues through behavior of the figures and ignored other features of the set. The researcher watched the video and read, and then highlighted some scenes and dialogues that fall into the cyberbullying category. Considering the purpose of the study, the researcher used an objective approach. The object of this study is The Cyberbully (2015) film. The researcher found five of the eight types of cyberbullying based on Chadwick's classification happened toward Casey in The Cyberbully film. These cyberbullying were denigration, harassment, impersonation, outing, and trickery, and cyber stalking. The impacts of cyberbullying seen in “The Cyberbully” film encountered by Casey impacted her psychology. The action attacked its mental well-being directly, such as feeling isolated, powerless, unsafe, threatened, hopeless, and frightened.
